Son of actor & body builder Clarence Linden Crabbe, or Buster Crabbe as he was known in showbusiness, Cullen Crabbe was born on September 4, 1944 in Santa Monica, California, as Cullen Held Crabbe. Nicknamed Cuffy, in a family known for their nicknames -- His father's nickname was "Buster" and his uncle is known as "Buddy."

Soon after his birth the family moved to Hack Green Road in Pound Ridge, NY. Cullen played the character Cuffy Sanders, the adopted son of Captain Gallant in the 1955 Tv series Captain Gallant of the Foreign Legion. Captain Gallant was played by his real life father Buster Crabbe.

In the series Captain Gallant becomes the guardian of Cuffy Sanders after his Foreign Legion father and brother died. Buster Crabbe was gung-ho for a series about a young boy helping him defend justice and they shot 39 episode in 9 months. The actor was considerably less excited about the sandstorms that he and his son would endured while on location in Morocco.

In the beginning, the show was filmed at an outpost on the edge of the Saharan Desert, French Morocco, Marrakech, Paris and Athens. Under the guidance of future James Bond producer Harry Saltzman, the filming moved to Lybia, Tripoli and Italy, where the political climate was less hostile.

The series was originally presented in the US by NBC, black and white, between February 13, 1955 to December 5, 1957, a total of 65 episodes, approximately 30 minutes long. It has also been shown in syndication under the title of "Foreign Legionnaire."

Cullen has two sisters, in 1957 sister Caren Lynn (known as "Sande") died at the age of 20 -- apparently of what we know as anorexia. She weighed 60 pounds at the time of her death.

His father Buster died in 1983 and is the only actor who has played Tarzan, Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon. Cullen and his wife Emily are retired in Scottsdale, Az.
