The family moved to Bournemouth, Dorset when Millie was four years old, and four years later emigrated to Orlando, Florida.
While in Florida Millie went to acting workshops to pass the time on a Saturday, and it was there that a top Hollywood talent scout called and told Millie's parents that "she has instincts you cannot teach." She advised Millie's parents that Millie could "mix it with the best kids in Hollywood." They packed up and drove from Orlando to Los Angeles, and within a week, Millie was meeting with the town's top children's talent agencies. She was offered representation by all the agents that she met.
In 2013, Millie made her acting debut as a guest star in the ABC fantasy drama series Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, a spin-off of Once Upon a Time, portraying the role of Young Alice. In 2014, Millie had a starring role in the BBC America paranormal drama-thriller series Intruders as Madison O'Donnell. She then made guest appearances in the CBS police procedural drama NCIS, the ABC sitcom Modern Family, and the ABC medical drama series Grey's Anatomy.
In 2016, Millie came to worldwide prominence for her role as Eleven in the Netflix science fiction drama series Stranger Things, for which she has been nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series. Industry reports have confirmed that she will return for the second season.
In November 2016, she starred in the music video for Sigma's single "Find Me", featuring Birdy. In January 2017, Millie made her modelling debut in Calvin Klein's By Appointment campaign. That same month, she was cast in her first film role, the action sequel Godzilla: King of Monsters.
Millie resides between London and Los Angeles and is quoted "I live on a plane." She has stated that she is an avid Liverpool F.C. supporter, like both her brother and father.
