Emil Minty was born in late 1972 in the Australian state of New South Wales, in Lidcombe, a south-western suburb of Sydney. He went to school at Lidcombe and was only 8 years old when he won the part in a 1981 movie which starred an up-and-coming actor named Mel Gibson. The movie was Mad Max 2 (known as The Road Warrior in the USA) and it propelled Emil into international stardom as an 8 year old, even though he never spoke a word in the film!
Out of scores of hopefuls, Emil won the part when the final three boys were asked to tell the casting people how the character Feral Kid came to be in the compound. The movie was filmed in the outback NSW mining town of Broken Hill and the `scenery' in the film is precisely the type of countryside for hundreds of miles surrounding Broken Hill.
After Mad Max 2, Emil had minor parts in movies such as Toby in Fluteman (1982), Andy Marlow in The Winds Of Jarrah (1983). He also did a few TV commercials and you can see him in a minor role in Run Rebecca Run (1983). He also starred in a couple features for the Australian Children?s Television Foundation: Top Kid (1985) and Peter and Pompey (1988).
Minty withdrew from acting in 1992 to become a jeweller at Chris Lewis Jewellers in Sydney's Gladesville, where he has worked for 23 years
