A superb performance in the L.A. play On Borrowed Time in 1946 at age 10, with Boris Karloff and Beulah Bondi playing his grandparents, got young Tommy into Hollywood pictures. Tommy Ivo started as a tap dancer and singer in Denver at age 3. With these skills he was groomed by Republic Studios to become the next boy version of Shirley Temple.
But that was not to be and by the early 50's "Republic Studios", king of the serials and western films, was gobbled up by other larger corporations. Tommy Ivo came to be known as "TV Tommy" because his films were re-broadcast on early television, and he appeared in just about every TV series in the 50's and 60's including The Gene Autry Show (1950), Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok (1951 & 1955), The Adventures of Jim Bowie (1956), Father Knows Best (1956), The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin (1957), Jeff's Collie (1962), Leave It to Beaver (1959 & 1960), The Lone Ranger (1955), Hopalong Cassidy (1952) and even the legendary Captain Midnight in 1954.
After his acting career ended Tommy Ivo became a professional race car driver, competing in Top Fuel Dragsters and Nitro Funny Cars.
Crowned the International Drag Racer of the Year 1964 in England by NHRA and the British Hot Rod Association. He was inducted in the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 2005 for his drag racing career and is ranked No.25 on the National Hot Rod Association Top 50 Drivers.
